The weather in Vienna and especially the temperatures are really nice and warm for April.
The cherry trees and magnolias have been in a lovely bloom already and the leaves of the trees are fresh and light green. Spring is definitely one of my favourite seasons!
The farmers market has more goods to offer and the buzz is back on a Saturday at Naschmarkt. To help me plan on what seasonal goods to cook with, I bought an in-season calendar over amazon (and not just because the pictures are so pretty :)). You can click on the pictures to see them in full-size.
I had a fun photo-shooting at the Japanese garden in Vienna with me as the model. As soon as I get the pictures I will put them up for you to see but it will take some time since the photographer is quite busy and on holiday at the moment.
Spring, how I love you when the sun shines bright!
One of my all-time favourite parks is the Setagaya park in the 18th district, as some of you know. Last year I posted about that beautiful Japanese garden here.
A tip, if you go there you should do so before lunch because the light in the afternoon can be a bit harsh for pictures.
My sister asked me to take pictures of her cosplay she did by herself and if you are interested in cosplay or sewing, you can check out her blog here.
The sky is blue, the sun was shining (a bit too bright for taking pictures but they didn’t turn out that bad) and lots of people enjoyed being in the park, glancing curiously over to us. I can’t blame them :)
It seems that I am lately only blogging about parks in Vienna. Something new will be up next week, no worries ;)
There are any childhood memories I link with Donaupark since I spend a lot of time there with my parents when I was little.
It is a great place for young families and small kids, as there are many different playgrounds making playtime exciting and fun!
If you are low on energy and want to explore Donaupark more comfortably, you could take a ride in the Lilliputbahn.
Teenagers and Adults have a wide space to do all sorts of sports. Playing Frisbee and soccer is quite popular in the summer.
There is even a school for bee-keepers here!
Oh and of course the Donauturm is located here, where adventur-seeker can throw themselves off the 150m tower and bungee jump.
I would be so up for that if it would not be that pricey for some seconds of adrenaline ;)
The Korean-house recently was added and I have yet to try out their dishes, especially looking forward to their bibimbap.
When it is warmer, one can enjoy the dishes outside near the lake and enjoy the view.
When I went there on Monday snapping away I was surprised my a short snow fall. I am really looking forward now to this warm week-end!
February was a great Month with lots of activities and loads of cupcakes but I am really looking forward to March now, especially spring!
I have been to the Lobau yesterday, which will be my next blogpost. Just a small teaser here ;)
For my upcoming Birthday I treated myself to a new phone and the picture quality is so much better!
Me and my (older) sister look like day and night!
By now you probably already know all of the cupcakes from Brass Monkey ;)
My friend moved into a new flat and this sign was mounted on the façade. If you walk around Vienna with open eyes, you will notice that there are quite a lot of them, in remembrance of the people that were deported and killed by the Nazis.
History should not repeat itself and by having those signs around you, I think it is great for being more aware of (your own) history.
The wonderful building of the tax office in the 22nd district. When you are a student in Austria and still get family subsidy you probably have to take a few trips to the tax office. Luckily most stuff can be done online!
One of my February highlights has to be the Chinese New Year buffet the Mister and me enjoyed at our favourite Restaurant called Fusan.
The lobster tasted even better than the one I had in the Philippines and the quality of his sashimi and sushi is superb!
Flower shops are getting me already all hyped up about spring.
I love old Viennese typography.
Hope you have a nice week ahead of you :)
My love for food shows maybe a bit too much here. ShootingVienna is turning more into eatingVienna that’s why todays post is a picture post. Back to the roots ;)
Normally I don’t bring my camera to university but I had no chance of going back home due to an event I will post about soon and so could snap some pictures in my break between lectures.
The campus of the viennese university is situated in the old general hospital building and if you keep your eyes open you see interesting details that hint to this fact.
The old general hospital was at its time a huge part of medicine research and famous people like Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis, Theodor Billroth and Karl Landsteiner contributed here.
But also the infamous Narrenturm is located here, which served as a psychatric “hospital” and was established in 1784 . In those times they thought that you can heal people of their mental illness by various peculiar ways. Oh and fun fact it was called Kaiser Joseph’s Gugelhupf (since Joseph II ordered the construction of this building).
Nowadays it is a pathologic and anatomic museum. But beware, this museum can make you feel a bit sick and I myself experienced that feeling when I saw the taxidermied body of a 4-5 year old girl with a rare skin disease. Nevertheless it is a very interesting museum and worth a visit :)
Spring has finally arrived or so it seemed. The temperatures are generous with up to 20°C and lots of sunshine.
It will get a lot colder on Sunday again apparently with chances of snow. So let’s enjoy the sunshine before it’s gone for a while again!
On my way to 12munchies. The trees are blooming like mad, one of my favourite things to see and smell in Spring.
Yummy pumpkin spiced cake with a sinful and very sweet frosting
Even Vienna’s inner city looks better with a dose of sunshine :)
Some random old building in the 7th district that looked so pretty and old.
Cupcake of course from my favourite cupcake place in Vienna Brass Monkey. Isn’t it too cute to be eaten?!
Got a new haircut at London Underground Haircutters. I am always satisfied with the outcome and feel comfortable with the cut compared to other hairdressers who don’t seem to follow your directions and wishes.
Huge pljeskavica “sandwich” with the boyfriend at Homolje Grill. Sadly not from the charcoal grill but nonetheless tasty! Nothing beats the ones in Bosnia though!
Elephant & Castle have great curries for lunch which you can even enjoy outside. They are only open for lunch from 11:30 till 15:30 btw!
Forsythia in full bloom. I love the contrast of the bright yellow blossoms with the sea blue sky.
Veganista ice cream! Not cheap but tasty, vegan and very interesting flavour combinations. The one on top is tonka bean ice-cream and it was really great! Similar to vanilla but more flowery. The huge green part is of course matcha and at the bottom I had almond-coconutm which fits perfectly together with matcha. Do try it out!
Having a walk around Uni Campus since I have a lot of breaks in between my lectures and my work hours.
I tend to spend quite a lot of money on lunch this semester, think I should start with bento boxes ;)
Hope you can enjoy the weather and have a wonderful week-end!
I just love spring it is my favourite time of the year. More sunshine, warmth and of course the wonderful smell of all the plants blooming and of nature awaking in the city.
That’s the view outside my window and let me tell you.. the snow is finally gone and spring is taking over. Just look at all those little flowers blooming in the neighbours garden! What a pretty sight :)
It got sunny and warm in Vienna. Yay! I am not good in jumping high and will work on that, so I can have more interesting poses. Finally spriiing! and in German “Spring” means to jump. No pun intented!
