Dorotheum Igersvienna Walk

Dorotheum was founded by emperor Joseph the first and is with its over 300 years the oldest auction house in the world.
I have never been there, so when Igersvienna on Instagram announced that 15 lucky people will have a tour I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

From very modern art, for example this huge sculpture of a floating potato (worth around 80,000-100,000€!!) to jewellery and pictures, you can find lots of lovely items.
If you have the necessary pocket money!

I really enjoyed the walk around Dorotheum, it felt a bit like a museum, the only difference is that there were price tags and the chance of buying the pieces.

Instagram Workshop

The Instagram Workshop about architecture took place last week-end and I was one of the lucky participants who got selected!
Architecture photography is not one of my strong points so I saw it as the perfect opportunity to learn new tricks and get the feeling for it.
The workshop was sponsored by the Vienna Tourist board, which I want to thank again here!
The lunch was paid for and I guess everyone is like me and loves a free meal :)

shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop
It was fun to meet other Instagramers or Igers as one calls them in person and to put a face to the online name.
Such nice and fun people! Instagram is a great way to connect with people and even to get to know them and Vienna better.

shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop

We first had a short introduction by Tim Hatton alias the.hat on Instagram and then explored MQ for some picture material.
It was so much fun to explore a specific place with other photographers to search for the perfect angle and a unique setting, knowing that others are on the same look out. It was not really a competition but I saw it as a challenge for myself, to get the most interesting architectural picture I could get.
The pictures we took were analysed and then we headed for lunch at MQ Kantine, where I had a yummy pita haloumi.
Then we strolled through the first district towards the building of Sparkasse since the event of Open House took place.
I totally forgot to write about Open House but I guess all Viennese were informed about that in the news anyway.
On that week-end private houses and offices or buildings that are normally not open for the public could be visited and some places even had tours.
Great opportunist to explore unknown places! It will take place next year again in case you missed it.

shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop
Anyways, we then headed for the economic university campus which has a really interesting and new architectural design, which you can see for yourself.

shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop shooting_vienna_igersworkshop

I do enjoy my food photography more since I can be creative and arrange my setting to my liking whereas a building is placed and you have to find the best angle by running around and looking for different perspectives ;)

February Recap

February was a great Month with lots of activities and loads of cupcakes but I am really looking forward to March now, especially spring!
I have been to the Lobau yesterday, which will be my next blogpost. Just a small teaser here ;)

shooting_vienna_February15

For my upcoming Birthday I treated myself to a new phone and the picture quality is so much better!

shooting_vienna_February15

Me and my (older) sister look like day and night!

shooting_vienna_February15 shooting_vienna_February15

By now you probably already know all of the cupcakes from Brass Monkey ;)

shooting_vienna_February15

My friend moved into a new flat and this sign was mounted on the façade. If you walk around Vienna with open eyes, you will notice that there are quite a lot of them, in remembrance of the people that were deported and killed by the Nazis.

History should not repeat itself and by having those signs around you, I think it is great for being more aware of (your own) history.

shooting_vienna_February15

The wonderful building of the tax office in the 22nd district. When you are a student in Austria and still get family subsidy you probably have to take a few trips to the tax office. Luckily most stuff can be done online!

shooting_vienna_February15

One of my February highlights has to be the Chinese New Year buffet the Mister and me enjoyed at our favourite Restaurant called Fusan.
The lobster tasted even better than the one I had in the Philippines and the quality of his sashimi and sushi is superb!

shooting_vienna_February15

Flower shops are getting me already all hyped up about spring.

shooting_vienna_February15

I love old Viennese typography.

Hope you have a nice week ahead of you :)

University has started again for me since last week and the current temperatures around 18-20°C are just so lovely to fully enjoy Autumn.

Blue skies at our parliament with lots of happy tourists.

I just love Chai especially when it’s getting colder. I had mine at Coffee Pirates which is located near the Campus. It is super comfy there, great to chill between classes.

shooting_vienna_insta

The interior of Coffee Pirates is a nice mix of old vintage pieces, that make you feel at home.

I redecorated my table and love lighting up my scented candles in the evening

Tried out Rachel Khoo’s yummy fig and chicken liver salad!

Graz Instagram post

Graz is the provincial capital of Styria and the second largest city in Austria, which is a bit surprising to me since it did not really have this city feeling.

But then again I am from Vienna and other capitals in Austria always seem like villages ;)
Yesterday was the perfect day, we left rainy Vienna per train for sunny Graz and the journey is only about 2 and a half hours.

Shooting_vienna_graz

I was excited since I can’t remember the last time I have been to Graz.

shooting_vienna_graz

shooting_vienna_graz

Lovely street art!

On top is the famous Uhrturm (Clocktower) which you have to earn to see from up close by climbing those stairs.

Excuse me waiter but there is a snail on my pizza! Apparently snails go with pizza in Graz ;)

My main goal in graz was to go to a vintage shop but it sadly is not opened during the week-end but the trip was still worth it :)

Instagram June

I am not very consistent with Instagram picture posts so I hope you enjoy this longer one :)

shooting_vienna_instajune

Finally got to go with the Mister to the Kleines Cafe which means small coffee shop. It is really tiny and cute, great for a date!

shooting_vienna_instajune

My favourite Vietnamese food Bo Bun from Happy Vietnam. So yummy and fresh

we were in a restaurant in lower Austria and they had three peacocks, one male and two female!
They are so pretty but can screech quite loud which startled me.

who doesn’t love rainbows?

shooting_vienna_instajune

shooting_vienna_instajune

that place in the fourth district always reminds me of Hogwarts. I am such a huge Potterhead in case you haven’t noticed ;)

shooting_vienna_instajune

Got some super fresh lychees from friends that have been to Vietnam and used them as earrings before devouring them. Best lychees I have ever had!

shooting_vienna_instajune

finally droped by the new university campus of economy shortened in german to WU and tested das Campus with the Mister.shooting_vienna_instajune

shooting_vienna_instajune

Yummy mojito lemonade!

shooting_vienna_instajune

industrial interior is not very often used in Vienna. I like the vibe of it!

shooting_vienna_instajune

We both were hungry from exploring and chose the cheeseburger with came with fries, cabbage and cocktail sauce.

The burger was okay, the caramelized onions inside were nice but we weren’t such fans of the cheese and the bread, also the beef patty was quite thin. I think it is a good lunch option for hungry students though for 9,4€.

shooting_vienna_instajune

shooting_vienna_instajune

funky industrial toilet selfie ;)

shooting_vienna_instajune

Now that the university is older one can see the mistakes of the architects, like the line on the floor which is caused by the rain and the wall of rust.

shooting_vienna_instajune

The buildings look very interesting and I like the landscape architecture. I need to return with my DSLR for better pictures to share with you guys :)

Have a nice week everyone!

Instagram Spring Picture Spam

Spring has finally arrived or so it seemed. The temperatures are generous with up to 20°C and lots of sunshine.
It will get a lot colder on Sunday again apparently with chances of snow. So let’s enjoy the sunshine before it’s gone for a while again!

shooting_vienna_instaspring

On my way to 12munchies. The trees are blooming like mad, one of my favourite things to see and smell in Spring.

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Yummy pumpkin spiced cake with a sinful and very sweet frosting

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Even Vienna’s inner city looks better with a dose of sunshine :)

shooting_vienna_instaspring

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Some random old building in the 7th district that looked so pretty and old.

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Cupcake of course from my favourite cupcake place in Vienna Brass Monkey. Isn’t it too cute to be eaten?!

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Got a new haircut at London Underground Haircutters. I am always satisfied with the outcome and feel comfortable with the cut compared to other hairdressers who don’t seem to follow your directions and wishes.

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Huge pljeskavica “sandwich” with the boyfriend at Homolje Grill. Sadly not from the charcoal grill but nonetheless tasty! Nothing beats the ones in Bosnia though!

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Elephant & Castle have great curries for lunch which you can even enjoy outside. They are only open for lunch from 11:30 till 15:30 btw!

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Forsythia in full bloom. I love the contrast of the bright yellow blossoms with the sea blue sky.

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Veganista ice cream! Not cheap but tasty, vegan and very interesting flavour combinations. The one on top is tonka bean ice-cream and it was really great! Similar to vanilla but more flowery. The huge green part is of course matcha and at the bottom I had almond-coconutm which fits perfectly together with matcha. Do try it out!

shooting_vienna_instaspring

Having a walk around Uni Campus since I have a lot of breaks in between my lectures and my work hours.
I tend to spend quite a lot of money on lunch this semester, think I should start with bento boxes ;)

Hope you can enjoy the weather and have a wonderful week-end!

Brass Monkey aka my favourite cupcake place in Vienna

This tiny jewel of a cosy coffee and cupcake place is located at Gumpendorferstraße 71.

shooting_vienna_brassmonkey

It is becoming a habit of mine and the boyfriend to stop by for some sweet delights.
Yesterday when we went there again they even offered a vegan cookie sunday, beside vegan cupcakes. It looked super tasty but we already had stuffed ourselves and may try it out next time.

Ishooting_vienna_brassmonkey

I am always drawn towards cupcakes in a combination with chocolate and fresh fruits. Here the frosting was cream cheese with nutella and raspberry. Mhm~
The moist cupcake base is definitely better than in most places and I enjoy their cream cheese frostings more than the normal buttercream, which is always so heavy and rich.

shooting_vienna_brassmonkey

I just love their cacao, they melt the chocolate with milk in a pan and pour it in a mug in front of you for some show factor ;)
You can choose between milk or dark chocolate and a cup is 3,5€ if I am not mistaken.
The boyfriend always loves the foam on top of his coffee, can’t say much about the coffee though since I don`t drink it but he likes it  a lot!
shooting_vienna_brassmonkey

The interior is cute and simple, with a long table for all customers to share.
The only thing that I would add are some labels for the cupcakes since you always need to ask which flavours they have but beside this, there is nothing to complain about.

shooting_vienna_brassmonkey

Oh and they have a special offer that if you take 5 cupcakes the 6th is for free ;)

Instagram food post

Well since it’s gradually getting colder and I am not up for taking long walks when I am freezing, it is the time to try out new restaurants and eat food in cozy places!

shooting_viennadez

I wanted to try out this Ethiopian restaurant ages ago and now I finally managed it with my sweetheart.
The food was yummy, filling and reminded us of Bosnian food (except the lamb dish and that we were eating with our hands and pancakes instead of cutlery).
As far as I can remember we had Atakilt (carrot, potatoes and string beans) timatim salad (tomato and green pepper) cabbage, two lamb dishes and in the middle was a beef dish. The white stuff was cheese. It did not look like a lot bot we were totally stuffed afterwards!

With Kerstin, Lisa and Yvonne I tried out Sapa’s Brunch and was not disappointed.
The food was great, there was a lot of variety not only with savoury but also with dessert and there was constantly something being refilled.

shooting_viennadez

yummy spring rolls, with three choices of fresh springrolls, fried shrimp rolls and tofu pockets.

shooting_viennadez

Vietnamese spiced goulash soup, the seasoning was nice.

shooting_viennadez

lots of tasty spring rolls, meat skewers and in the background you can catch a glimpse of my Quiche.

shooting_viennadez

I did not make a picture of all cakes we ate, we had a lot of cake and let me tell you, don’t miss the apple cake it is really yummy!

At POC (People On Caffeine) I had some cute looking hot chocolate (it looked better than it tasted, it was a bit watery for my taste) with a white chocolate cheesecake and a speculoos base.
The sweets in POC are made by the sisters who would organize Guerilla Bakery which I would sometimes attend but now that they have settled down I can have regularly their tasty desserts and it is also very near to my university so yay :)

End of October Instagram + November Challenge

So are you going to celebrate Halloween tonight? I must confess I am a party pooper in this aspect but then again I cannot really relate to why I should celebrate this day.

Since I could not finish my 365 day photo project I will try out a monthly Instagram challenge now. Created by the Blogger Silver Boxes, I do my best to do this challenge till the end!
Here is a link to her Blog and her November Challenge:  http://stephssilverboxes.blogspot.co.at/2012/10/november-photo-challenge.html

Here are again some random Instagram pictures:

Bear, camera, and flower shaped gingerbread. The dough was (shockingly!) not home-made and weirdly not sweet enough. Oh well

Building near my university. I just love the different shapes working together.

Dawn at Kaisermühlen. So pretty!

shooting_vienna

super awesome dawn! Glad I could catch that beautiful moment. Same dawn, just some moments later at Kagran.

shooting_vienna

fancy chocolate from Haas&Haas. Nice to give as a present but the taste was not that better to normal Milka chocolate. Price was 2,20€.

shooting_vienna

Zotter chocolate for hot cacao. I love them, perfect for cold weather <3

scary fingers my boss made for the customers coming by today at work for trick and treating. They look really good!
